If Thoreau is garbage so is Ayn Rand... but I'm going to read her to. Depends. I consider Thoreau garbage because he's a giant hypocrite, and by now, if you're into the book, you should see that. See the Transcendentalism thread for more details. Rand never suggested a philosophy she herself didnt put into practice.

maybe you could put up some evidence from the book? And Rand is a selfish piece of shit... me me me me me me me .... but I need to read her anyway... I can't base my assumptions of her work on people like you nick, because I just get mad.

Ha. I love it when hippies get pissed. Its like watching a declawed cat try and scratch someone.
As to pointing out evidence from the book, if you've read the it and didnt pick up on it, congratulations, you're more dumb than an eleventh grade honors class that discussed it at length. I refuse to pick up that book again. I'd rather read something more worth my time, like... Little Critter Goes to Camp. That way I get a story that actually has a point, and I get amusing pictures to illustrate Little Critter's wonderful journey.
Your posts are going downhill, my little Teddy Bear. It all started when you tried to convince us that we were brainwashed into thinking meat tasted good. I hope you'll go back to your old level of intelligence, so we can carry on a decent discussion.

"Ha. I love it when hippies get pissed. Its like watching a declawed cat try and scratch someone.”
First of all, leave the cats out of it. Secondly, I am not a hippie.
“As to pointing out evidence from the book… [blah blah blah]”
Congratulations! You have no evidence to back up what your smack mouth says… so I see no reason to listen to you or have ANY kind of discussion on what you were talking about in the other post.

What was my old level? The smile and shut up kind? No thanks… I feel liberated whereas you can’t even give me one lousy example to back up your tired rambling mouth… HA!

No, your old level was where you were able to intelligently discuss the topic at hand, instead of just making assumptions and labelling something one way or another having no previous knowledge of it.
However, its your time, do what you want with it. It could be put to better use... like you could take up some new and exciting hobby... maybe underwater basket weaving, or something.

The Thick Nhat Hanh is getting pretty good I'm happy to report. In the meantime, I've started yet another book:
From Chivalry to Terrorism: War and the changing nature of masculinity by Leo Braudy
