think abou it this way to those future no voters, which is better: commiting a crime at age17 and spending the rest of your miserable life in jail. | commiting a crime at age 17 and being put down (unless you did it in texas, in which case your gonna get fried like a hot dog in a microwave set on high with a metal rod stuck in the middle of it.)

it wouldnt be so bad if they got it right all the time but thats impossible, theres a chance your going to kill innoccent people alot, or at least some of the time and killing the ''bad guys'' isnt worth it with that risk, people who say that the death penalty makes the executioners as bad as the culprits are wrong though, killing a child is far worse than killing a child killer(for example),
whos seen the movie green mile where that guy gets electricuted, that sure was disturbing

i think it depends on whether it was a crime of passion or a pre-meditated.

supporters of the death penalty can have reasonable reasons and such and if it were not for my personal morals and philosophys, i would agree, but that isnt the case. it is a moral crime against civilization.

there are heaps of people in prison who deserves to die, but who judges that? That would put like a price on life or something. the american government kills people all the time, i guess there are prisoners who deserve to die, but it sucks if its the society that alienates people and essentially ''turns people into criminals'' because of the life they have had, then sentences them to death because it decides that this individual has broken the threshhold of deserving to live/die. its kinda sick. then ther are people who say its expensive to keep people in prison so kill em, thats crap. i think the death penalty is great in theory, yeah sure, fry the fuckers, but society and justice and morales and shit like that are a mess so i think ther should not be a death penalty.

pretty much I just wrote my essay for my college english 101 course, my teacher said its only supposed to be about a page long double spaced...and if you want to read it...here it goes (first assignment of the year by the way so hes not grading it)
The death penalty is a sensitive issue in today’s society mainly because many people do not believe that killing another person has justification nor does it make up for the crimes that the person has committed. They believe that two wrongs do not make a right. However, there are also people that think the death penalty is entirely warranted in some situations. Although I am not completely for the death penalty, I do believe that when used properly it is a very effective tool in our legal system. In addition, I agree with how the government has handled this issue and has not made the death penalty illegal. I feel that much like abortion, a person should have the right to make a decision on something that affects them or would affect them in the future. People should always be allowed choices, and if a law was passed to get rid of these choices then there would be an even larger issue at hand. There are a few other reasons why I support the death penalty. The prison system is extremely overcrowded and expensive. Taxpayers shell out thousands of dollars each year to provide food and other paraphernalia for rapists, murderers, and pedofiles. By paying these taxes, we are ultimately giving money to a person that could of raped, killed, or sexually molested someone that we love dearly. When properly instituted the death penalty could not only keep rapists, murderers, and pedofiles off the streets, it would also provide great relief for not only the tax payers but the congested penitentiaries as well. In conclusion, the death penalty is a good thing and we should continue to implement it.

Anti-death penalty... and your "paper" was WAY too simplistic....
“The death penalty is a sensitive issue in today’s society mainly because many people do not believe that killing another person has justification nor does it make up for the crimes that the person has committed.”
What’s your source?
“They believe that two wrongs do not make a right. However, there are also people that think the death penalty is entirely warranted in some situations.”
Source? And by “they” do you mean “people”? and if so, what “people?”
“Although I am not completely for the death penalty, I do believe that when used properly it is a very effective tool in our legal system.”
What makes it effective? How effective is it? Statistics?
”In addition, I agree with how the government has handled this issue and has not made the death penalty illegal.”
Are you aware that the US is one of a handful of countries that still uses the death penalty? Are you also aware that we are on an even shorter list when it comes to countries that allow children to be tried and executed?
“I feel that much like abortion, a person should have the right to make a decision on something that affects them or would affect them in the future.”
The death penalty is NOT a personal choice. It is a punishment handed down by the state to execute a member of society.
“People should always be allowed choices, and if a law was passed to get rid of these choices then there would be an even larger issue at hand.”
What issues would arise?
”There are a few other reasons why I support the death penalty. The prison system is extremely overcrowded and expensive. Taxpayers shell out thousands of dollars each year to provide food and other paraphernalia for rapists, murderers, and pedofiles.”
I would rather house, clothe, and feed people than bomb the hell out of them for billions of dollars… Do you have a statistic on how much money the average American pays for incarcerated people? And a comparison statistic for how much the average American pays for our inflated defense (read: aggression) budget?
“By paying these taxes, we are ultimately giving money to a person that could of raped, killed, or sexually molested someone that we love dearly.”
Could have? You are basing your approval of the death penalty based on a “could have?” Give me some statistics. How many rapists, murderers, and child molesters are in jail? How many violent offenders are in jail? How much am I paying for the dangerous people you talk about? And how many people are in jail for minor infractions, of the non-violent type?
As far as taxes go, I give money to the government, which in turn, hands over a sum to the Israeli government, which continues destroying the lives of Palestinians through the use of state terror. By paying taxes I give money to the US government to back dictators, engage in illegal warfare, subsidize the drug war, and numerous other diabolical things. I would rather give my money to fund creative and long term solutions to problems rather than to maim, murder, and disenfranchise people for short-term gains.
“When properly instituted the death penalty could not only keep rapists, murderers, and pedofiles off the streets, it would also provide great relief for not only the tax payers but the congested penitentiaries as well.”
How can the death penalty be “properly instituted?” And what determines success?
Where’s the class analysis? The penal system is becoming privatized and subsidized on US tax dollars. How do you make money by owning a jail? You need to fill it. So you create drug laws which are unequal. A majority of people in jail are those of color, usually low income, for minor drug offenses of the crack kind. The class opposite of crack is cocaine. Cocaine offenses are less significant than crack offenses. Where do you find crack users? The low income neighborhoods, predominately people of color. Where do you find cocaine users? The upper class neighborhoods, predominantly white. If you eradicate the unequal laws, and stop giving incentive to make money on the affair, perhaps the congestion would drop and people wouldn’t have to pay so much.
However, the congestions of jails and the money shouldn’t be the only incentives to kill other human beings. You’re not in jail; you don’t feel the burden of congestion. Also, is it me? Or does it sound morbid to others that to alleviate the congestion problem we need to kill off as many people as we can? That’s not the point of the death penalty. It’s not a population control device.
”In conclusion, the death penalty is a good thing and we should continue to implement it.”
Your conclusion is misguided.

First of all in avgypr whatever the fuck his name is' defence, as he stated:
so don't keep saying 'explain' or w/e, he had to condense his paper
second of all, i agree with knight when he pointed out the fact that the death penalty is a punishment, not a choice. If you haven't noticed, people that are in jail aren't given very many choices at all, and rightfully so. they did some stupid crime and with that gave up all rights of choice.

A much better way to decongest your prisons is to decriminalize marijuana. Killing people to clear up some space is just ridiculous.

I'm against it.... simply because there's a chance that you kill the wrong person, and even though the chances might be small, og minimalistic.... the chance is still there.... and to be killed by the legal system because of something you didn't do can't be very fun..
You won't let a killer go free just because you don't kill him, he'll probably be locked away for the rest of his life, and for me, taht would've been a worse end of my life than being killed... a prison cell, is hell on earth, I'm sure of...and the unbearable shame that comes with it...

Killing people to clear up some space is just ridiculous. hell yeah, i read somewhere - a moore book i think- that they reduce murderers sentences to make room for drug offenders! also when a drug ''offender'' gets out of prison they are no longer alligable for govt benefits whereas murderers and rapists etc are! its insane-
